DIAMOND GUIDE

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR DIAMOND:

Ready to buy your first diamond? You’ve come to the right place. At Origem, we’re all about putting you first. We know that shopping for a diamond Jewellery can feel like a big adventure, so we’ve put together some easy steps to help you find the sparkling jewellery of your dreams. Following 4C’s are to be kept in mind when shopping for your diamond:

CUT

One of the most crucial things to consider is the cut of a diamond. A lot of people confuse the cut with the diamond's shape. While a diamond's cut determines its brilliance, fire, and ultimately its life, shapes can be oval, princess, cushion, and more. The diamond's brilliance comes from its cut. For this reason, while selecting your diamond, be sure you select the proper cut.

CLARITY

The clarity of diamond is determined by the flaws, Inclusions and the blemishes that the diamond has. The lower these flaws, Inclusions and blemishes the higher is the clarity of the diamond. These flaws are mostly not visible to the naked eyes and need a skilled set of eyes to inspect them. You can refer to the chart below to know about the different clarity levels of a diamond:

COLOUR

A diamond’s colour can range from colourless to shades of yellow or brown. The colour scale for diamonds extends from D to Z, with D representing a colourless diamond and Z exhibiting a noticeable yellow tint. Colourless diamonds are considered rare and therefore more expensive; however, there are exceptions for diamonds in colours like blue, green, pink where a darker hue can actually enhance their grade. To gain a clearer understanding of diamond colour, you can refer to the scale below.

CARAT

A diamond's carat is determined by its weight. A diamond's price might vary significantly between two stones with the same carat since other criteria are taken into account. It would cost less to purchase a two-carat diamond with G colour and VS1 clarity as opposed to D colour and VVS1 clarity.
